WELCOME TO MY WEB SITE

My name is T/sgt J.A.(Jim) Hollingsworth, U.S. Air Force(Ret). This site is dedicated to the people who fought the Cold War. All wars are not fought within the sound of big guns, bombs and screaming engines of overhead aircraft.

The cold war was a dire threat that lasted from the end of W.W.II until the Soviet Union collapsed.(Indeed! even now.) Some men and women were defending freedom when most people didn't know their freedom was at risk Some served in rugged outposts, others were fortunate to serve in some of the most beautiful and friendly places on earth. I was privileged to have served with some of the best people, at one of the best of duty stations of that era. That duty station was:

R.A.F. STATION SHEPHERDS GROVE, EAST ANGLIA, SUFFOLK COUNTY, ENGLAND.

Here I will try to Honor, Locate and Document where those troops. who served there from 1950 until the "GROVE" closed, are today.

HIGH FLIGHT

*****************************************************************

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skys on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds---and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of---wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, or even eagle flew.

And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE
